We will be using the Reading Street textbook, while supplementing with other literature. 

Some of the skills the students will be working on this year are:

• Identifying and Using Digraphs
• Consonants and Vowels
• Fluency 
• Writing Skills
• Components of a Sentence including:
  • Nouns
  • Verbs
  • Adjectives

This year the 1st grade students will be using the Math Expressions series. They will be reviewing and learning new concepts. Some of the topics they will study are:

• Addition
• Subtraction
• Fractions
• Place Value
• Money and Time
• Counting to 120

This year we will be using Mystery Science (www.mysteryscience.com), and Science Spin (Scholastic). 

The students will be using Social Studies Weekly. This series comes in the same format as the science series we will be using. The newspapers are bright and engaging. The students really love them. We will also be using Scholastic News.

Some of the topics we will be learning about are:

• Maps
• Planet Earth
• Communities (what they are, who lives in them, and how they work)
• Family

The students will be using the We Believe textbook (Sadlier) as they develop a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith.
