We will be using the Ready Reading and Writing programs, while supplementing with other literature during literature circles and independent reading. We will have differentiated spelling words and weekly spelling tests.

Mrs. Fitzgerald will be teaching all fourth graders social studies this year. Fourth grade social studies focuses on the forming and history of New York State, including:

• Native New Yorkers
• European Explorers
• Colonial New York
• Revolutionary New York
• The Industrial Revolution
• Government and Civics
• The students will also participate in Mystery Skype sessions to explore the US and World geography.

Students will be developing a deeper relationship with God and the Catholic Church. Some of the topics we will be covering are:

Fourth grade students will participate in the Adirondack Mountain Club Heart Lake program. This program includes four visits from ADK Mountain Club naturalists to St. Bernard's (fall, winter, spring, and end of school) and three visits to the Heart Lake Program Center in the High Peaks. During our fall visit, we will hike Mt Jo and learn about plant and animal adaptations. During our winter visit, we will snowshoe and learn about snow formation and tracking. During our spring visit, we will learn map reading and orienteering.
